Masks

For the performance of the samba we thought wearing masks would be a good idea, so we looked up prices for masks, for the boys we thought they should were full face masks and for the girls to wear eye masks. We looked on many craft and fancy dress shop websites to try and find the masks we wanted at a reasonable price. We found full face masks for 60p each, the cheapest eye masks we found were £1.20 each, we needed 13 masks for the girls and it came to £24, and for the boys the total came to £3.60. We had a budget of £50 and we only spent £27.60, so I think our budgeting went well.

Origins Of Festivals

A festival is an event usually put on by a local community, which celebrates some unique aspect of their community. When the word Festival is used it is most often referred to a religious festival rather that a film o art festival. The word fest comes from the Middle English, from Middle French word festivus, from the Latin word festivus. The word festival was first recorded as a noun in 1589. Many types of festivals serve to meet specific needs and to entertain. Modern festivals that focus on cultural or ethnic topics seek to inform members of their traditions. Back in the day festivals were a time for the elderly people to share their stories and to transfer certain knowledge to the next generation.

Folk Museum

When we was walking through to the entrance of the Folk museum we went past big wooden doors with a doorbell hanging from the ceiling, we carried on walking for a few seconds till we got to the entrance. As we walked in no one was expecting it to be so modern, all the walls were white, with laminated wooden flooring and the art wasn't what everyone thought it would it would look like. There was a wall which had tiny pixils projected onto it, from far away it looked like it was still and then when you get closer to it you can see tiny square pixils changing colours.

Risk Assessment

I think it is important to do a risk assessment for outdoor performances as there are many dangers, especially if we have equipment, If we were carrying the instruments to the market square from the junction many accidents could occur, for example someone could injure themselves, people may have bad backs and carrying an instrument may cause damage to them. Also if a student dropped an instrument and broke it then the college or student would be reliable to pay for it. As we are walking to the market there will be a lot of moving vehicles and if we were carrying the instruments and on of the students dropped it and it rolled into the road it could cause an accident.
The impact it has made on changing the day of the performance is alright, we are very prepared, and we only have to do a few things ready for the day, for example email everyone and letting them know that the date has changed, changing the posters and so on.

Dress Rehersal

Yesterday we had a dress rehersal at the junction, I think it went really well. Everyone wore the T-shirts and they looked really good, I think everyone felt comfortable no one complained. I think the outfits were very successful but the boys masks were to small for their faces.
If we had more time i think we would of made sure all the masks were the right size of every one and we wouldn't of rushed them.

Samba!
SMU Samba Band

I went on to, www.youtube.co.uk to look for samba videos, I watched a few videos but didn't find any that appealed to me, then I found this one, the reason I choose this samba video is because it's really fun and upbeat, it has a really funky beat to it and everyone looks like they are enjoying themselves.
The performance is really good, they are all dancing and look like they are having a really good time, they are all dressed in white they haven't got any logo's of anything on they're clothes, The location is at the launch of the ABC Waters exhibition at the Asian Civilisations Museum.
My own experience of Samba, I find it really fun and intresting how all the different instruments make different noise's but when all played together is sounds really good, another thing i find intresting is how you can play any kind of music using these instuments, including; Dub-Step, Drum And Bass, Funky Etc. It includes alot of concentration as you have to listen to what everyone else is playing and try keep in time with everyone else. It teaches you communication skills aswell as you have to know what everyone is doing. I really enjoy going to The Junction on a thursday to play Samba.

Plans For Todays Campaign

Today I will be campaigning for Child Abuse to stop, I am planning to go to the town center of Cambridge, The people i am hoping to speak to are parents and other general people, I am not sure on how long it will take but it shouldn't take long no longer than an hour i should think.
The methods that I'm going to use to influence opinion are information and persuasion.
My expectations for this campaign today are to raise awareness about the issue, and hopefully to let people know that it has to stop!!
